'Take Ten' Summer Holiday Club 2023!

Our Holiday club is open to all young musicians of primary school age, and is the perfect way to start your musical journey, get ahead in your playing, make musical discoveries, or simply make friends and get inspired!

You do not need to be a Keys student, or a pianist, and children are welcome to bring along other instruments they may be learning.

This Easter our daily themes will all be based around the theme TV and Movies, exploring how composers have written the famous songs and music we love so much, and learning some new pieces inspired by these timeless stories!

Full days, open 8am-6pm daily, with main teaching taking place 9am-4pm.

Teaching on the Keys Holiday Club is focussed on embedding essential skills and knowledge. Each day we incorporate rhythmic awareness, reading notationperformance practice, aural skills, music history and geography, and all aspects of theory. Teaching is tailored to suit the range of children attending each day. The daily timetable runs roughly as shown below:

8am: For those early birds! Free choice of musical activities and games, or individual help with practice.

9am: Whole group teaching session, introduction of daily theme, highlighted styles and composers and team building games.

10am: Breakpractice, play

10.30am: Small group teaching. Children are grouped into ability/experience levels and teaching focusses on developing specific skills, knowledge and repertoire.

11.30am: Games related to theme and outside play.

12.15: Lunch time (and there's now a tradition of hide and seek following lunch!)  Please note that children will need a packed lunch.

1.15pm: The Little After-Lunch Concert, where all are invited to play if they wish, or just listen to others. A great opportunity to try out performance skills and listening skills.

2pm: Collaboration session 1: Structured teaching session, which involves improvising, composing and refining work as a duet or larger ensemble.

3pm: Quick play out!

3.20pm: Collaboration session 2: Completing work from earlier in the afternoon, and performing for and with others.
